The Safety Management System (SMS) forms the central management system for safe, responsible, and efficient operations both on board and ashore. Within the SMS, procedures, responsibilities, risk assessments, and controls are established to manage risks, prevent incidents, and comply with national and international laws and regulations.
The system brings together safety, working conditions, security, environmental protection, maintenance, training, and operational processes into a single integrated management system. Additionally, it forms the basis for audits, inspections, and industry-specific programs, such as SIRE 2.0 within the tanker industry.
