MLC compliance

The MLC 2006, the Maritime Labour Convention, aims to protect and improve the working and living conditions of seafarers. The convention applies to all seagoing vessels engaged in commercial activities.

Certification according to MLC 2006 is mandatory for ships of 500 GT and larger. Ships under 500 GT are not required to carry a certificate, but they must fully comply with the requirements of the convention. MLC certification consists of an MLC certificate and a Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance (DMLC), comprising Part I and Part II.

In DMLC Part I, the flag state specifies how the MLC requirements are incorporated into national legislation. In DMLC Part II, the shipowner describes the procedures and measures with which the ship continuously complies with MLC regulations.
